March 2011 Facebook, Twitter and the dead of MySpace

As the usage of Web 2.0 continues to grow and become even more relevant, here I have gathered the statistics and related news of the top three social networking sites.

#1 — Facebook. It’s number of active users Facebook has grown to some 500 million in July 2010.

#2 — Twitter. The micro-blogging platform saw a traffic surge of close to 1000% between February 2008 and February 2009 As of April 2010, Twitter users were signing up at the rate of 300,000 daily and the site had over 150 million registered users.

#3 — MySpace. Dead!!! It now has some 125 million users but with huge decreasing traffic. In fact report has it that the former social networking giant’s traffic has dropped so much that it cost owner News Corp about $100 million!

Regardless of their positions, as web analysis firm Experian Hitwise’s media relations director Matt Tatham said, the Internet is ever-changing and can be fickle.
You may be #1 today but gone tomorrow
